Parker was approached by the film's producers to create a theme song for the film, though he only had a few days to do so and the film's title seemed impossible to include in any lyrics.

I woke up one Saturday morning in 1986 to watch cartoons, and I just happened to turn the TV on to the pilot episode of The Real Ghostbusters.

Maybe it's because TRGB was my exposure to this universe. The synth is dropped to the background instead of being the focus, and it's a brighter sound. It's one of the elements that came together to create the phenomenon in 1984 that is the reason we're all here. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this version at all. I'll be out back if you want to bring the torches and pitchforks. But I really like the palm muting, the down tuning, and the slower tempo.Ģ. Starts to lose points in the second verse where it just goes off making up this rambling bit that has no connection to the original song.
#Extreme ghostbusters theme song update#
This is pretty solid and faithful without getting too much into trying to update it to be more "90's". For years, I never knew Jim Cummings was the singer! I really like EGB. This would be better if they had kept the original lyrics, or tried to keep to the spirit of them, as they did with "Walk This Way" a few years earlier.ģ. They wanted something "new" to try and move units, and they had no way of knowing that "On Our Own" was going to be a big breakout pop hit in its own right. It was a new movie, this was an era where soundtrack sales were pretty big, DMC was popular. Serviceable, but it's only "ok" under the best of circumstances.Ĥ. Miles better than the Fallout Boy version. And wtf is Missy Elliot doing in the middle of it? Completely unnecessary.ĥ. So that in mind, here's now I rang them in ascending order.Ħ. I'm also leaving out video game versions, because really, most of them are just shitty chiptunes that all are bottom rung. Just themes that appeared in movies, on television, or on soundtracks. I'm only talking about themes that appeared in actual Ghostbusters media, so no random youtube covers or even covers by famous artists. It's been covered a few times here and there. So with the final countdown having started, I had some thought about the theme.
